The State of California regulates building officials and construction inspectors through various state codes. California Health and Safety Code Section 18949 establishes mandatory certification, training and continuing education requirements for construction inspectors, plans examiners and building officials who are employed by governmental agencies, special districts, cities, counties and local agencies. In addition to providing definitions of the duties of these employees, the code mandates that the certification shall be obtained “from a recognized state, national, or international association, as determined by the local agency.”

The American Construction Inspection Association is just such an agency. We have been certifying inspectors in the state of California for more than 25 years. Our Registered Construction Inspection certifications are recognized in many other states and federal jurisdictions as well. ACIA’s inspector certification program is an easy way for individuals as well as organizations to meet Health and Safety Code Section 18949.

The ACIA, as a state approved certification provider, would like to make our up-to-date training and testing materials available to you and to provide appropriate and convenient opportunities to your employees for certification in various disciplines. Public Works Inspector, Building Inspector, and Engineering Inspector certifications, as well as our specialty certifications, are based on current code standards. We can reserve training and testing dates for your employees on a group or one-to-one basis, as needed, at a reasonable cost to your agency.

Please feel free to explore our website, where you’ll find all the information you need to become a Registered Construction Inspector. We would be happy to provide you with any additional information you might require as well as a formal training proposal if you are interested. Please do not hesitate to contact the ACIA to further discuss these opportunities at your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you.
